Application for Marriage:  Important information…

Please ask for a marriage draft form which is to be completed at least three weeks prior to the wedding ceremony with the relevant documentation and correct fees. incomplete forms will delay the issuance of the marriage certificate.

(a) There is a fee of £50 for the marriage certificate. Fee to be admitted with the application.

(b) Marriage Certificates are only issued when both the bride and groom are either in possession of full UK / EU residency permit or they are UK / EU citizens.

(c) The applicant must either be the legal guardian (wali) of the bride, the bridegroom or the bride personally. Third parties may submit documents if approved by the applicant in writing (otherwise forms will not be accepted).

(d) IDs are also required, where acceptable form of ID includes UK photo driving license, passport or official government issued photo ID. It does NOT include NUS/Student card, Birth certificate or bills. Please bring the original IDs at the time of submitting the form. We will photocopy the IDs and return them to you the same day. Photocopies of the originals will NOT be accepted. The process requires ID of the bridegroom, the bride, the Legal guardian and the two designated witnesses. Proof of address is also required (i.e. gas electric bill/bank or credit card statement which is not older than three months), (Original ID’s and proof of address must be taken with the application draft for marriage to the Mosque office to photocopy, upon which they will be returned).

(e) If the bride has been previously married, she is required to produce a proof of divorce from her previous husband. A document of proof could be a divorce certificate from a Muslim country, or an Islamic centre/organisation. In absence of such, a letter of divorce from her previous husband with two Muslim witnesses would suffice, in which case we must be provided with the contact details of the previous husband for our own verification. A new marriage ceremony can only be performed after three menstrual cycles since the date of divorce, which approximates to three months, during which no marital relations must have taken place.

(f) Both the bride and groom may be required to attend an interview and advice session at our Mosque prior to the Marriage Ceremony.

(g) . On the day of the ceremony the applicant will be required to come to MJMB or as arranged for the pre-arranged appointment with all the parties mentioned in the application (i.e. the legal Sharia guardian, the bridegroom, the bride and the two Muslim male witnesses).

(h) Nikah applications are accepted during administration hours (Mon – Thurs 10:00am to 6:00pm.

(i) Failing to reply to the Mosques attempts to contact you regarding your application will result in termination of your application and also loss of your application fee and supporting documents after 6 weeks of the date of submission.

(j) The Imams reserve the right not to perform a Nikah should they wish to do so if they feel uncomfortable or something is wrong, a full refund will be issued in such cases.

(k) . Your application will be processed and required enquiries will be made when necessary. Upon application approval, the applicant will be contacted to arrange a ceremony appointment. In cases where the application fails, the applicant will be notified and informed as to why.
